HC Deb 16 June 1986 vol 99 c474W
74. Mr. Powley

asked the Minister for the Civil Service what action his Department is taking regarding the introduction of performance-related pay.

Mr. Luce

A performance bonus scheme covering a limited number of grades was introduced last year on an experimental basis. This is planned to run for three years, during which it will be carefully monitored and evaluated. A report on its first year of operation will be available soon.

My right hon. Friend the Prime Minister also announced on 22 May 1986 that the Government have decided in principle to introduce discretionary pay for grades 2 and 3. The details are currently being worked out, and staff interests will be consulted.
