asked the Secretary of State for Energy whether he is prepared to consider the introduction of the least cost resource principle to applications for building new power stations.

Mr. Goodlad

Minimum cost is already a key factor in the CEGB's decision to apply for my right hon. Friend's consent to construct particular power stations. My right hon. Friend will treat all such applications on their merits.
