Mr. Roy Hughes

asked the Secretary of State for Wales if he will list all road construction contracts which his Department intends to award in 1986–87, showing in each case the total value of the contract and the expenditure likely to be incurred in that year.

Mr. Wyn Roberts

Subject to the satisfactory completion of statutory procedures, the completion of engineering design and the availability of resources we hope to let contracts for the following major schemes in 1986–87:

  • A55 Glan Conwy to Conwy Morfa (Conwy Crossing);
  • A483 Gresford-Pulford Bypass;
  • A40 Haverfordwest Relief Roads; and
  • A487 Pont Rhyd Llwyncelyn.

In addition, we expect to let some contracts for schemes costing less than £1 million. Schemes in this category are not programmed for a start in a specific year and the choice of project will depend on their state of preparedness and on the availability of resources.

It is not possible to give the cost of the contracts or of the expenditure incurred in 1986–87 since this will depend on the value of the accepted tenders and the contractors' programmes.
