Mr. Austin Mitchell

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what has been the change in the real exchange rate of the £ sterling based on (a) gross domestic product deflators and (b) relative export prices since the fourth quarter of 1976 against the United States dollar, the Japanese yen and each of the European Economic Community six currencies for the latest period for which figures are available; and if he will publish the current nominal exchange rate and the average rate for the latest convenient period.
