HC Deb 12 June 1986 vol 99 c265W
Mr. Teddy Taylor

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what specific improvements in the conservation of salmon in Scottish rivers he anticipates will accrue from the legislation which he is currently promoting; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. John MacKay

The Bill contains a number of new measures to deal with illegal fishing which should result in a larger proportion of the runs of fish returning to their native rivers. In addition, there are provisions which can be used to reduce fishing effort where that is considered necessary in the interests of conservation.
