§ Mr. Spellerasked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry how many firms were estimated to be in the catering industry in 1985; how many were prosecuted for underpaying staff; how many cases were found proven; and what were the sums of money underpaid in these cases.
§ Mr. TrippierI have been asked to reply.
There were 114,000 establishments covered by the three wages councils for the catering industry on the Wages Inspectorate's register in January 1985. None were prosecuted for offences under wages council legislation.
