HC Deb 09 June 1986 vol 99 cc35-6W
Mr. Tony Banks

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, pursuant to the answer of 3 June, what objectives of Her Majesty's Government's diplomatic policy towards South Africa are served by the continued presence in the United Kingdom of military attaches from South Africa; and what is their current diplomatic status.

Mr. Eggar

As I told the hon. Member on 5 June, the continued presence of the South African military attachés in Britain remains under review. They are members of the diplomatic staff at the South African embassy and are like all foreign diplomats, who are appointed by their Governments for their own representational purposes.
