asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what categories of job are performed by the 3,000 industrial officers working in the prison department.

The job categories of industrial staff now employed in the prison department are—drivers, works craftsmen (painters, carpenters, etc.), labourers, stokers, plant attendants, caretakers, cleaners, caterers, farm foremen, agricultural craftsmen, mechanics, fitters, storekeepers, packers, stores inspectors, and car park attendants.
