HC Deb 09 June 1986 vol 99 c94W
Mr. Gareth Wardell

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what information he has on the implementation of good prescribing practice as defined by the Medicines Commission, whereby prescribers ought invariably to endorse prescriptions on withdrawn drugs to the effect that the prescription had been issued deliberately and in full knowledge.

Mr. Hayhoe

I have no information on the endorsement of prescriptions for withdrawn drugs. The purpose of the endorsement "WD", that is, "withdrawn drug", is to indicate to the pharmacist that the prescription has been written in full knowledge of the drug's status. If any prescription is not so endorsed pharmacists are advised to confirm the doctor's intentions before dispensing the prescription.
