HC Deb 09 June 1986 vol 99 cc78-9W
Sir Richard Body

asked the Minister of Agriculture. Fisheries and Food whether there are any pesticides on sale in the United Kingdom approved by the Advisory Committee on Pesticides wholly or partly on data made available by the Industrial Bio-Test Laboratory.

Mrs. Fenner

There are no products on sale in the United Kingdom whose clearance under the pesticides safety precautions scheme (PSPS) depended wholly on data supplies from Industrial Bio-test Laboratories (IBT). There are a number of products on sale whose clearance was originally based in part on data from IBT but in most cases the IBT data have been validated or replaced by new data. In the case of "Maloran 50WP" (active ingredient chlorbromuron), the supplying company does not wish to retain PSPS clearance and the product's clearance has therefore been withdrawn with effect from 1 July 1986. Clearance for the use of alachlor was also supported in part by IBT data. There was no suggestion that the data were fraudulent, but it was outdated. The Advisory Committee on Pesticides recommended that a review should be carried out. A replacement data package has been received and the review is underway.
