asked the Secretary of State for Wales by how much the nursing staff, doctors, ancillary staff and after-care staff within the National Health Service has been increased in Cardiff and Cardiff West in particular since 1979; and if he will make a statement.

Figures are not available in the form requested, but in the South Glamorgan health authority between 1979 and 1985, front line staff including nurses and doctors have increased by 12.1 per cent. while other hospital staff, including ancillary staff, have increased by 4.6 per cent.
