HC Deb 09 June 1986 vol 99 c77W
Dr. McDonald

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what would be the additional cost in 1986–87 of income tax relief for class 4 national insurance contributions if the upper annual limit were abolished.

Mr. Norman Lamont

[pursuant to his reply, 5 June 1986]: If the upper profit limit for class 4 national insurance contributions were removed and tax relief were available on one half of all class 4 NIC, the additional cost of the tax relief for 1986–87 would he about £40 million.
