§ Mr. Dalyellasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will make a statement on the Inland Revenue investigation into alleged abuse of the convenants procedure in a Scottish Roman Catholic diocese.
§ Mr. Norman Lamont[pursuant to his reply, 22 May 1986, c. 308]: The Inland Revenue makes regular checks on claims by churches and other charities for repayment of tax deducted from covenant payments, but I cannot comment on what may or may not have occurred in any individual case.
