HL Deb 04 June 1986 vol 475 c1082WA
Lord Brougham and Vaux

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What response they are making to the World Conservation Strategy.

Lord Elton

The Government welcomed and endorsed the principles of the World Conservation Strategy when it was published in 1980. My honourable friend the Minister for the Environment, Countryside and Local Government is attending a conference in Ottawa called by the authors of the strategy to assess it six years after its publication.

The Government have published a report—"Conservation and Development; The British Approach"—setting out the ways in which the United Kingdom has approached the issues raised by the strategy. Copies have been made available in the Printed Paper Office.
