HL Deb 04 June 1986 vol 475 c1081WA
Lord Houghton of Sowerby

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What authority exists for the BBC to use popular regular programmes for making appeals for financial support to charitable causes sponsored by professional performers.

Lord Glenarthur

The content of programmes broadcast by the BBC is a matter for the Board of Governors of the corporation, in the light of their obligations to provide broadcasting services as public services, as laid down in Article 3(a) of the charter.
