§ Mr. Spearingasked the Secretary of State for Transport (1) if he will state the dates since 1 April when the Woolwich free ferry was not operating as planned together with the nature and period of the respective delays;
(2) if he is satisfied with the level of performance of the Woolwich free ferry service since 1 April; if he will investigate the reasons for reduction or cessation of service; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. Peter BottomleyI understand there have been seven days with no service and 34 days with some disruption due to labour difficulties or mechanical failure.
As I said in my answer to the hon. Member for Woolwich (Mr. Cartwright) on 28 April at column 311, Greenwich borough council is operating the Woolwich ferry as our agent and questions on its day-to-day operation should be addressed to the council.
