§ Mr. Austin Mitchellasked the Secretary of State for the Environment what estimated proportion of the low-level nuclear waste produced up to the year 2030 will come from (a) hospitals and laboratories (b) nuclear power plants and (c) reprocessing.
§ Mrs. Rumbold[pursuant to the reply, 22 May 1986, c. 295]: Of the 1.2 million cu m of conditioned low-level radioactive waste expected to arise up to the year 2030, assuming a moderate growth in nuclear power generation, approximately 6 per cent. will come from research, medical and industrial sources; approximately 24 per cent. will come from committed and proposed reactors and from decommissioning; and about 70 per cent. will come from reprocessing.
