HC Deb 03 June 1986 vol 98 c544W
Mr. Kennedy

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if additional resources are to be allocated to the provision of primary health care for the over-75s in inner city practices.

Mr. Hayhoe

A major review of primary health care is under way: the Command Paper "Primary Health Care: An Agenda for Discussion" (Cmnd. 9771) issued in April includes a chapter on promoting primary health care in inner cities for people of all ages. Consultations on the paper will continue until the end of the year and I intend to await the outcome of the review before reaching conclusions.

Mr. Kennedy

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what provision is made for the after-care of diabetics discharged from hospital.

Mr. Whitney

The after-care of a diabetic patient discharged from hospital is the responsibility of the general practitioner. Many diabetics, however, continue attending hospital clinics regularly. Specialist nursing, dietetic advice and chiropody services are also available.
