HC Deb 03 June 1986 vol 98 cc518-9W
Mr. John Mark. Taylor

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will call for a report from the chief constable of the West Midlands on the comparative police manpower figures expressed as head of population per officer for (i) the Solihull sub-division and (ii) the Chelmsley Wood sub-division of West Midlands L division; and if he will publish the figures.

Mr. Giles Shaw

I understand from the chief constable of the West Midlands that the population per police officer in these sub-divisions is as follows:

Numbers
Solihull sub-division 1:954
Chelmsley Wood sub-division 1:694

These ratios leave out of account the police officers currently at L division headquarters, which covers both sub-divisions, and the police officers responsible for policing Birmingham airport, which is a responsibility of L division.
