asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science how many representations he has now received in total against the proposed introduction of the general certificate of secondary education; and how many of these representations are from (a) local education authorities, (b) examination boards or groups, (c) independent or private schools, (d) state schools, (e) right hon. and hon. Members and (f) other individuals.

Since the beginning of the year, the Department has received some 1,400 letters from various bodies and individuals requesting that the GCSE be delayed. Of these, 27 are from local education authorities, two are from examining groups and four are from CSE examinations boards. Further information is not available in the form requested.
