§ Mr. Frank Fieldasked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will estimate the effect of increasing long-term national insurance benefits by £5 a week for a single person and £8 for a married couple and raising child benefit by £3 a week on the numbers claiming (a) supplementary benefit, (b housing benefit and (c) family income supplement, if no corresponding adjustments were made to the eligibility levels for income tested support.
§ Mr. NewtonParts(a) and (b) cannot be answered without incurring disproportionate costs. Part (c) implies minimal reductions in the numbers claiming family income supplement.
