Mr. Scott

I refer the hon. Gentleman to the reply I gave on 24 July 1986.

Mr. Kevin McNamara

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland (1) if he will publish in the Official Report the number of persons who were initially detained under other Acts and were charged under the Prevention of Terrorism (Temporary Provisions) Acts in the first six months of the current year;

(2) how many persons detained under the Prevention of Terrorism (Temporary Provisions) Acts were charged with (a) offences under the Acts and (b) offences under other Acts (excluding common law offences) in the first six months of the current year.

Mr. Scott

[pursuant to his reply, 23 July 1986]: During the first six months of the year no one was charged with an offence under the Prevention of Terrorism (Temporary Provisions) Act 1984 having first been detained in Northern Ireland under another act. Five people detained in Northern Ireland under the Prevention of Terrorism Act were charged with offences under that Act. One hundred and ninety one were charged with offences under other Acts.
