The funds allocated under the arrangements for supra regional funding of highly specialised services for the liver transplant programme at the Queen Elizabeth hospital, Birmingham, were £482,000 in 1985–86 and £647,000 in 1986–87, an increase of 34 per cent. 25 liver transplant operations were performed in 1985–86, and 13 were performed between 1 April and 22 July 1986.
