§ Mr. Moateasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what is the timetable for the next full review of parliamentary constituency boundaries.
§ Mr. MellorThe Parliamentary Boundary Commissions for England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland are required to review all the Parliamentary constituencies in their areas and submit a report to the appropriate Secretary of State not less than 10 or more than 15 years from the date of submission of their last report. Their next general reviews will therefore have to be completed between 1993 and 1998, except for the Northern Ireland review, which has to be completed between 1992 and 1997. This means that these reviews are unlikely to begin before 1990 at the earliest, the timetable thereafter being determined by the amount of work involved and the time required to comply with the procedures prescribed by the House of Commons (Redistribution of Seats) Acts 1949 to 1979.
