HC Deb 25 July 1986 vol 102 cc568-9W
Mr. Simon Hughes

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will direct the London docklands development corporation to compile a register of all the freehold and leasehold acquisitions and holdings in the area of London docklands by each member of the London Docklands development corporation board, its staff, its consultants and their families; and if he will make a statement.

Sir George Young

No.

Mr. Simon Hughes

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment (1) what steps he has taken to ensure that all grant and funding monies distributed by the London Docklands development corporation and drawn from the J4 local community budget have been allocated solely to local community projects, and that on no occasion funds from this local community budget have been passed to commercial companies or private individuals, and if he will make a statement;

(2) what was the sum of money paid (a) from the London Docklands development corporation J4 local community budget and (b) from other London Docklands development corporation local community financing resources to (i) Albatross Industries Ltd, and (ii) other private companies in the London docklands, during each of the past three years for which figures are available; and if he will make a statement.

Sir George Young

[pursuant to his reply, 24 July 1986]: The London Docklands Development Corporation's J4 budget includes contributions to capital works on schools, parks, museums and other community facilities and are usually paid to local authorities or charitable trusts. The Community budget as a whole, including J4, is not used to make beneficial payments to commercial companies or private individuals, but on some occasions, the corporation makes payments directly to companies (such as building contractors) who have carried out works for the benefit of the community. No payments have been made to Albatross Industries Ltd. from the community budget.
