§ Mr. Kirkwoodasked the Prime Minister what steps have been taken to ensure that the common plans to computerise records in the Department of Health and Social Security, Department of Employment, Inland Revenue and other Government Departments adequately protect individual privacy and freedom.
§ The Prime MinisterNormal safeguards will operate to ensure that information held by Government agencies is used only by authorised personnel for authorised purposes. All uses of personal data will be registered under the Data Protection Act 1984. When the Act comes fully into force in November 1987, individuals will have the right of access, within the terms of the Act, to data about themselves which is held by Government agencies.
