§ Mr. D. E. Thomasasked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will make a statement on when the National Radiological Protection Board will recalculate its derived emergency reference levels for radioactive contamination of food in line with its own recommendation that the public dose limit should be no more than 1 mSv per annum.
§ Mrs. RumboldDose limits for routine situations lasting for many decades do not constrain the choice of reference levels such as DERLs for application after an accident, but they can be used as comparisons. The question of DERLs is still under active consideration by a group of experts of the European Commission, on which a member of NRPB staff serves; this group will doubtless take into account the values of the dose limits.
