Mr. Austin Mitchell

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if, further to his answer to the hon. Member for Dagenham of 20 May, Official Report, columns 173–4, on United Kingdom contributions to European Economic Community budget, he will provide figures for the gross contribution including the addition as a result of supplementary budgets.

The estimate of our gross contribution contained in the 1986 Budget is 4,898 mecu (£3,043 million) after deducting our abatement of 1,900 mecu (£1,180 million). These figures do not take account of sizeable VAT adjustment we expect to pay next month (which will itself give rise to a larger VAT abatement in respect of this year).
