HC Deb 25 July 1986 vol 102 cc604-5W
Mr. Frank Cook

asked the Secretary of State for Energy what information he has on (a) the annual quantities of depleted uranium that the Central Electricity Generating Board has sold, both within and outside the United Kingdom, for use in industrial and other processes not related to nuclear power and (b) the annual revenue obtained by the Central Electricity Generating Board from the sale of depleted uranium for industrial purposes.

Mr. Goodland

I refer the hon. Member to my reply to the hon. Member for Walthamstow (Mr. Deakins), on 23 July 1985, at column474, on this subject. This has been the only sale of CEGB-owned depleted uranium for nonnuclear purposes. The value of the sale is a commercial matter for the CEGB.

Mr. Frank Cook

asked the Secretary of State for Energy what information he has on (a) the industrial uses of depleted uranium in the United Kingdom, (b) which United Kingdom companies are currently utilising, or have in the past utilised, depleted uranium for these processes and (c) what are the future industrial uses of depleted uranium envisaged.
