§ Mr. WhitneyThe health services costing returns currently in use do not identify costs by specialty. The Department makes estimates by broad service groups but these figures are only available for England as a whole. Total expenditure on acute services per head of population amounted to some £90 in 1984–85.
For acute in-patient services only, the 1984–85 performance indicators published by the Department include information on relative expenditure per head of the resident population in districts. A set of the indicators is available in the Library.
