There were 120,900 police officers in England and Wales on 31 May 1986.

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many police officers were convicted of criminal offences in each of the past 10 years.

Statistics relating to the number of police officers in provincial forces convicted of criminal offences is contained in the annual reports of Her Majesty's Chief Inspector of Constabulary. Statistics for the Metropolitan police for the years 1979 onwards are contained in the annual reports of the Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis. The Metropolitan police statistics for earlier years are not available.
