asked the Lord Privy Seal if he will make a further statement about the office, secretarial and research allowance.

I have already told the House that the resolution agreed on 16 July 1986 will be put into effect. Although its terms apply to the rate for 1985–86, as well as that for 1986–87, it would clearly not be appropriate for retrospective claims to be paid by the Fees Office. The resolution will therefore apply only to the rate of the allowance for 1986–87.
