HC Deb 24 July 1986 vol 102 c346W
Mr. Kirkwood

asked the Solicitor-General for Scotland if he will cause to be reopened the police investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of Mr. Willie McCrae; and if he will make a statement.

The Solicitor-General for Scotland

The police investigation will not be reopened. A full report was received from the procurator fiscal at Inverness concerning his investigation of the circumstances surrounding the death of William McCrae. This report was considered by Crown counsel, who were satisfied that there were no circumstances to warrant criminal proceedings. The results of the procurator fiscal's full investigations were disclosed to Mr. McCrae's brother and discussed with him. He expressed satisfaction with the extent of the investigation and indicated that there was no wish on the part of the family for a public inquiry.
