HC Deb 24 July 1986 vol 102 c396W
Mr. Baldry

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department why Mr. Dharminder Singh, a passenger arriving on flight M5777 at terminal 3, Heathrow airport on 13 July, was detained for four hours by immigration officials; why his passport, address book and a wedding invitation were removed from him; why they have not yet been returned to him; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Waddington

Mr. Dharminder Singh arrived at the immigration control at approximately 1300 hours on 13 July and sought admission as a visitor. At 1310 hours he was required by an immigration officer to submit to further examination under the Immigration Act 1971. This continued until 1645 hours when he was granted temporary admission until 1430 hours on 29 July so that further inquiries could be made. Mr. Singh's documents have been retained by the immigration officer pending the completion of his examination and the grant or refusal of leave to enter.
