HC Deb 24 July 1986 vol 102 cc334-5W
Mr. Stern

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what progress has been made by his Department with regard to the collection and publication of comparative performance data on building projects undertaken by local education authorities; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Dunn

It is important that when LEAs undertake educational building projects they should achieve value for money as well as fitness for purpose. My Department will shortly begin to collect data on individual major building projects on a basis agreed with the local authority associations. The collected data will be published. I hope that this will assist LEAs in their search for value for money by providing benchmarks by which each authority can judge its performance against experience elsewhere.
