§ Dr. Marekasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science whether, in the recent University Grants Committee's exercise in classifying departments on a basis of merit any consideration was given to the scope for rationalisation in the final classification.
§ Mr. WaldenThe University Grants Committee has considered, and is continuing to consider, the scope for the rationalisation of university departments. Such considerations did not, however, affect the committee's judgments about the standard of departments' research.
