§ Mr. McNamaraasked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many prisoners were transferred from (a) Scotland to Northern Ireland and (b) Northern Ireland to Scotland in the first six months of the current year; and under which section of the Criminal Justice Act 1961 such transfers were carried out.
§ Mr. John MacKayTwo prisoners were transferred permanently from Scotland to Northern Ireland under Section 26(1), and one prisoner was transferred temporarily, for a period of 15 days, from Northern Ireland to Scotland under Section 27(1), of the Criminal Justice Act 1961 in the first six months of this year.
The permanent transfer of another prisoner from Scotland to Northern Ireland under Section 26(1) of the Act was also agreed during the same period, but the actual transfer has still to take place.
