HC Deb 21 July 1986 vol 102 c1W
Mr. Teddy Taylor

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what provision has been made in the revised European Economic Community budget for 1986 for the storage, disposal and destruction of food surpluses; and what was the comparable figure for 1985 and 1984, respectively.

Mr. Jopling

The table sets out Community expenditure on public storage and disposal of products in structural surplus—cereals, sugar, milk products, beef and wine—and on withdrawals from the market of fish and fresh fruit and vegetables.

Storage (mecu) Disposal (mecu) Withdrawal* (mecu)
1984 996 10,436 461
1985 1,299 11,165 230
†1986 1,308 12,629 283
Notes:
* In some circumstances withdrawn produce finds no end use and has to be destroyed although the expenditure involved is not separately identified in the relevant Community statistics.
† 1986 figures are taken from the supplementary budget proposed by the Commission. The overall provision for the EAGGF guarantee section in the final adopted budget exceeded the Commission's proposal by 1985 mecu. Details of the precise allocation of this extra sum have not yet been published. 1984 and 1985 figures are taken from Commission financial reports.
