HC Deb 21 July 1986 vol 102 c76W
Mr. Janner

asked the Paymaster General if Her Majesty's Government are refusing to accept the EEC draft directives designed to provide additional protection for employees at work.

Mr. Lang

In considering any proposals for employment protection legislation the rights and interests of people in employment have to be balanced against the needs of the unemployed. It must be a major priority for the Community to improve the operation of the labour market to create the conditions for employment growth. The Government's position on particular proposals is determined in that light.
