asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry, pursuant to the answer of 15 July to the right hon. Member for Bristol, South, what was the date on which his Department submitted evidence to the Monopolies and Mergers Commission in relation to the bid by Elders XL for Allied Lyons.

No. Evidence is submitted to the Monopolies and Mergers Commission in confidence. The commission may choose to quote from evidence in its report, but that is a matter for the commission.
