Mr. Loyden

asked the Secretary of State for Transport (1) what discussions his Department has had with British Rail concerning reorganisation and the retention of jobs in areas of high unemployment;

(2) if he will make a statement on the proposed reorganisation of British Railways Board proposals for reorganisation of the traction maintenance division of British Rail.

My right hon. Friend the then Secretary of State for Transport made a statement to the House on 20 May, at columns 188–89, about British Rail's proposals for rolling stock maintenance, including the measures being taken by the board to help those affected by the changes.
