§ Mr. Andrew F. Bennettasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what is the current figure for the number of surplus places in primary and in secondary schools; and what further number he expects to be taken out of use in the next five years.
§ Mr. DunnThere are currently around 1,000,000 surplus pupil places in primary schools and 670,000 in secondary schools. It is estimated that 273,000 pupil places in primary schools and 730,000 in secondary schools could be taken out of use by 1991–92.
