asked the Secretary of State for Transport what financial allocation has been made for 1987–88 and 1988–89 for the Greater Manchester passenger transport authority; and what is the current figure.

The capital allocation for the Greater Manchester passenger transport authority for 1986–87 is £8.734 million. Allocations in respect of 1987–88 and 1988–89 have not yet been made. As to current expenditure, I refer the hon. Gentlemen to my reply given at column666 on 20 June to my hon. Friend the Member for Manchester, Withington (Mr. Silvester). Expenditure levels for passenger transport authorities for 1987–88 will be determined and announced later this month.
