§ Mr. Kirkwoodasked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what account his Department takes of the impact on the health of national and local populations of industrial developments when considering grant applications from private industry.
§ Mr. Peter MorrisonIndustrial developments for which grant from this Department is sought are subject, like other industrial developments, to the normal range of statutory permissions and controls relevant to health. It would generally be for the companies concerned, together with the relevant authorities, to satisfy themselves that they were in compliance with these controls. This Department would not therefore normally make any separate assessment in this area though where we were aware of potential difficulties we should discuss them with the companies or authorities concerned.
