§ Mr. Corbynasked the Secretary of State for Social Services what procedures his Department recommends for the measuring of the body temperature of suspected cases of hypothermia.
§ Mr. WhitneyThe way in which a patient's temperature is ascertained, and the procedure employed, is a matter for the professional judgment of the doctor or nurse concerned. The Department's current professional guidance, which was given in a circular letter — CMO 25/74 —issued on 2 December 1974 by the then Chief Medical Officer and Chief Nursing Officer, draws attention to the advisability of taking the deep body temperature with a low reading thermometer where there is a suspicion of hypothermia.
