asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if any permanent liaison has been established between his Department and the European Bureau for Lesser Spoken Languages; and if he will make a statement.

An official from the Scottish Education Department attends meetings of the Scottish and United Kingdom committees of the bureau.
The Scottish Committee covers the Gaelic, Scots and Shetlandic languages.
