HC Deb 14 July 1986 vol 101 c324W
Mr. Steen

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will give details of the progress made between 1975 and the date of the transfer of the building to the Historic Buildings and Monuments Commission in restoring Lower Leigh, Churchstow; and what was the estimated date of completion in 1975.

Mr. Tracey

After having taken immediate steps to prevent the collapse of the building, between 1975 and 1984 my Department carried out the following projects: replacement and repair of masonry on the gatehouse; major renovation of the south range, including the construction of a new roof and the replacement of the wooden gallery; and the construction of new internal walls.

In 1975, it was estimated that the full restoration would take more than 10 years to complete.
