Whether they will publish, when available, the numbers of infant deaths registered as cot death, sudden infant death syndrome or similar terms in Scotland and Northern Ireland in 1983, 1984 and 1985 in total, and for each month of the year, and as a percentage of infant deaths from all causes: also the number in each health board area in Scotland and in each health and social services board in Northern Ireland and subdivided into socio-economic class and legitimacy and also the number and percentage of live births in each socio-economic

The available information for Scotland and Northern Ireland is given in the tables. The Scottish tables show the number of deaths registered with any mention of "cot death", "sudden infant death syndrome" or similar term on the death certificate, irrespective of whether it did or did not appear as the underlying cause of death; infant death figures for Northern Ireland relate to underlying cause of death only. Infant mortality statistics are complied by social class, not by more detailed socio.economic groups. Infant death figures by legitimacy cannot be supplied for Northern Ireland.
