HC Deb 11 July 1986 vol 101 c299W
Dr. Godman

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what recent representations he has received on the level of maintenance of school buildings.

Mr. Allan Stewart

Since 1 April 1986, representations about the level of maintenance provided for school buildings have been received from Lothian regional council and Dumfries and Galloway regional council. The level of maintenance in specific schools was one significant factor in representations supporting school replacement proposals which were received from two hon. Members, from Orkney Islands council and from five parents in Shetland.

Individual education authorities are responsible for ensuring that their school buildings are properly maintained, and it is for each authority to determine its own priorities in the allocation of resources for this purpose.
