§ Mr. Stephen Rossasked the Secretary of State for the Environment whether he will publish in the Official Report what areas have been designated under part II of the Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Areas Act 1979, as revised in 1983, as areas of archaeological importance (a)in major cities and (b) in the open countryside.
§ Mr. TraceyFive areas of archaeological importance have been designated, at Canterbury, Chester, Exeter, Hereford and York. These are all within the historic centres of the cities.
